Prismatic reflective tape was invented by Reflexite 30 years ago. DOT reflective tape along with SOLAS and School Bus conspicuity tapes are two results of this amazing invention. The School Bus and DOT Conspicuity tapes are about 5-6 times brighter than standard reflective tapes. Prismatic tape is not only brighter but is also visible at much sharper angles than standard reflective tapes. As an example, engineer grade reflective tape which are normally found on street signs needs to be either directly in the path of your headlights or roughly 20 degrees to either side for you to see it. Prismatic tape can be 45 degrees to either side and still be seen clearly. This along with the increased brightness is especially important in on the road applications where it is crucial to be seen at night.
Where is DOT tape used?
DOT reflective tape is designed to be used on tractor trailer rigs. It is a federal regulation in both the US and Canada that all tractor trailers exceeding 10,000 lbs. have alternating red and white DOT approved 2" wide conspicuity tape along at least 50% of their lengths (can be segmented) and entirely across their back ends. Solid Silver/White DOT tape is required to mark the upper rear corners of trailers by the placement of two 2 inch x 12 inch segments together to form an inverted "L" in each corner. . Although DOT tape is made for trailers it is also very popular for non DOT applications such as motorcycles, bikes and other vehicles due to its extreme brightness and aggressive adhesive.
How is DOT Conspicuity Reflective Tape applied?
To apply simply peel off the backing and press firmly onto a clean dry surface. It will stick to virtually anything. It is completely waterproof and weather resistant.
How do I identify genuine DOT Reflective Tape?
All Reflexite DOT tapes include the "DOT C2" designation letting you and the DOT know that you are using the proper tape.
