Things To Do With Your Kids In On and Around Pensacola Beach, Florida
Pensacola Beach Florida is a great place to visit and is near several attractions as well as several other fun cities. There are plenty of activities and attractions to keep you and your kids busy all week long.
On the actual island there are of course the beaches. If you want lots of peace and quiet you can drive west or east to one of the National Seashores that border the main tourist areas of Pensacola Beach. To the west is Fort Pickens and to the east is the National Seashore that continues for miles all the way to Navarre. When you reach either of these areas you have your choice of going to the beaches on the gulf side or the sound side. The gulf is rough and the sound is calm. Most people choose the gulf. As you enter the beach over the toll bridge you will see flags that will let you know how rough and dangerous the surf is in the gulf. Knowing the surf conditions before you go into the water of the gulf can save you or your childrens lives. Rough surf is nothing that you want to mess with. Also the flags will let you know if there are any dangerous animals in the water. Mainly jellyfish.
If you want to be around a lot of people go to the board walk which is in the center of the island near the giant beach ball water tower. There are restaurants and shops as well as a fishing pier and great beaches. All on the Gulf of Mexico. There is also a great mini golf course to the east of this area in the same parking lot. You can't miss it.
Right across the street is the Boardwalk. The boardwalk is full of shops and restaurants and is right next to Quietwater beach for those who want to avoid the rough water of the gulf. Quiet water beach is located on Santa Rosa sound which is the body of water that is on the inland side of the island. If you are at the board walk during lunch or dinner time make sure to visit either Hemingways for fancy dining or Flounders for more casual dining. Flounders is famous worldwide and has a great play area for young kids. They have live music in the evenings.
Between the board walk and the toll bridge there are Jet ski rentals, the parasail, more mini golf and even go carts. Key sailing is also in the same area and you can rent boats there.
To the west of the beach ball water tower a mile or so is a restaurant called Peg Leg Petes. They serve great seafood and have a nice kids menu. Also, there is entertainment nightly.
When you run out of things to do on the island you can cross the bridge into Gulf Breeze, Florida and do some exploring. You can cross from there into Pensacola, Florida and enjoy and endless list of attractions. I won't list them all but the one you must see is the Pensacola Naval Air Museum. It is probably the finest Flight Museum in the world. They have an IMAX theater and flight simulators. Don't leave the area without a visit. To the west of Pensacola is Gulf Shores with amusement parks, restaurants, concerts, etc... To the east is Navarre Beach, Fort Walton and everybody's favorite Fishing Village Destin, Florida.
Have fun and by all means be safe.
