NFPA 1901 states that firetrucks and emergency vehicles shall have alternating yellow and red chevron striping applied to 50% of the rear of the vehicle. We carry reflective chevron striping in three types or grades of tape. Type 1 (bright), Type 3 (brighter) and Type 5 (brightest). All three are compliant with the NFPA 1901 standard. On this page we carry 1" and 6" rolls of type 1 tape.
The 1" rolls are for treadplate striping.
For treadplate applications we recommend punching the material into 3/4" squares or circles and applying it in the flat area between the diamonds. Punches can be purchased at Hobby Lobby, Michaels or any hobby store for about $10.
The 6" material is for the downward slanting 45 degree chevrons. The stripes must alternate from red to yellow.
Engineer grade type 1 material meets the minimum standards for chevron striping established by the NFPA. It is also the most flexible and least expensive of the reflective films. It will stretch and conform better than any other reflective tape. Heat from a hair dryer or heat gun enhances this characteristic.
