Our Type 5 and 8 tapes are similar in brightness. The Type 5 tape is thin and the Type 8 tape is thick.
NFPA 1901 states that firetrucks and emergency vehicles shall have alternating yellow and red chevron striping applied to 50% of the rear of the vehicle. We carry reflective chevron striping in five types or grades of tape. Type 1 (bright), Type 3 (brighter),V92 Prismatic (even brighter) , V82 Type 5 (very bright) and Type 8 (brightest). All five are compliant with the NFPA 1901 standard. The type 5 and 8 tapes are both prismatic tapes but the V82 Type 5 is much thinner than the Type 8. On this page we carry 3/4", 1" and 6" rolls of "Type 5" tape. We carry the 6" wide tape in both 30' and 150' rolls. Our "Type 5 tape is manufactured by Reflexite, the creators of prismatic tape. It is superior to other tapes due to its extreme durability and brightness. It is thin tape making it excellent for wrapping around corners. It also reflects at sharper angles than standard tapes.
The 3/4" rolls are for treadplate striping.
For treadplate applications we recommend cutting the material into squares using scissors or a paper cutter set to 3/4" and applying it in the flat area between the diamonds. This will give you a 75% coverage ratio for those areas.
The 1" rolls are also for treadplate striping.
For treadplate applications with 1" tape we recommend punching the material into 3/4" squares or circles and applying it in the flat area between the diamonds. Punches can be purchased at Hobby Lobby, Michaels or any hobby store for about $10.
The 6" material is for the downward slanting 45 degree chevrons. The stripes must alternate from red to yellow.
Reflexite V82 Prismatic grade type 5 material far exceeds the minimum standards for chevron striping established by the NFPA. It is an extremely bright and tough tape. It is a "thin" design tape making it easy to wrap around corners. It also carries a 10 year outdoor rating.
