The FRA first studied the use of reflective sheeting on rail cars in the early 1980s and supported a study completed in 1982 on the use of reflectorization to reduce nighttime accidents at highway-rail intersections.  (Note - Non reflectorized trains crossing roads were previously invisible to approaching cars and because of this fatal accidents were common.) The study concluded that although the use of reflective material enhanced the visibility of trains, the reflective material was not durable enough to withstand the harsh railroad environment. It was decided that rulemaking action was not warranted at that time.

In the 1990's, more research was done by the FRA and it was determined that newer tapes had the longevity and brightness that would be required for such an application. So the idea to reflectorize a rail car fleet became viable.  In 2005, the FRA 224 regulation was put into place and required rail cars to be marked with strips of FRA approved reflective tape every 12 feet. 

Oralite R99 FRA 224 Reflective Rail Car Tape exceeds FRA regulations and provides an incredibly rugged, very bright solution to rail car accidents.   As rail cars pass over an intersection, the bright reflectivity from automobile lights hitting the tape is very noticeable from a great distance away.  This gives drivers ample time to stop.  This simple addition to rail cars has saved countless lives, and will far into the future.

About our Products - We carry a wide variety of reflective tapes.  They are all branded and certified products.  We stock almost everything that we sell in house and ship quickly.  If a product is not in stock or is to be drop shipped, we will make you aware and specify a lead time.  We carry Oralite and Nikkalite reflective tapes.  Both are on QPL lists across the country and both are manufactured by reputable, global manufacturers.  Our reflective tapes are rated for outdoor applications with life expectancies of from 5 - 12 years depending on the film.  For applications where the tape is out of the weather like a fire truck in a firehouse, the life expectancy is longer.

Shipping - We ship quickly using US Mail for light boxes and UPS Ground for heavier ones.  The majority of our products are in stock and ship out the same or next day. Delivery time is approximately 3-5 days on most standard orders.

Return and Order Cancellation Policy - Reflective tape orders can be cancelled until they are shipped out. After products are shipped, we accept returns in certain cases. If we have made a mistake and have shipped the wrong item, we remedy that at no cost to the customer.  For returns where another item is purchased to replace an item purchased in error, we accept those with no restock fee.  For all other returned items we apply a 10% restock fee.
