Acid Staining Concrete / Cement Floors - Applying a High Gloss Floor Finish to your Acid Stained Cement / Concrete Floors.

Now that you have locked the color into your cement floors you are ready to apply a clear high gloss floor finish. The floor finish will give your acid stained floors a deep glossy dimension. Just like the way a clearcoat on a car gives the paint a deep rich finish.

We use Sunnyside High Gloss Floor Finish which is sold at PR Supply. It is applied easily with a lamb wool applicator or a basic mop. It is self leveling and unless applied to thick will not leave brush or mop marks.

Before applying make sure the floor is free of any lint, hair, dirt, etc.. You do not want to seal in these things.

To apply it we first soaked our mop or lambs wool applicator in water for several hours and then let it drip dry. We then poured about a quart of floor finish into a tray. Then we dipped the applicator into the finish, let it drip for about 15 seconds and began applying the finish. We started at one end of a room and worked our way to the other. It is a good idea to only work with one room at a time. Find a logical place to start and stop. We applied side to side and overlapped each stroke just a little always being careful to not apply the finish too thickly. Once you have covered the entire area stay off of it until it is dry. Dry time for our finish was about 30 minutes. We applied 4 coats of the finish to get a mirror like look.

Once you have applied the coats that you need, move on to the next room until you are done. Congratulations, you have just finished your floors and have saved thousands of dollars. Plus when your floors need touch up or refinishing you will know how to do it.

To maintain and protect your floors apply a coat of mop and glo every few months to a clean floor.
